Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Gastroenterologist based at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. The post is suitable for a physician with an interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease but consideration would be given to suitable applicants with other luminal gastroenterology interests.

The appointee will join a team of ten Gastroenterologists and three Consultant Hepatologists within the Health Board. The department provides a comprehensive service for patients with gastrointestinal disorders from Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, both at district level and as a tertiary centre. The Cardiff Crohn’s and Colitis Clinic offers a regional IBD service. The appointee will join other Consultants with an IBD interest, supported by a number of IBD nurses, specialist GI dietician, IBD clerical officer and with links to the Intestinal Failure team. There are regular IBD radiology MDT’s, biologics review and business meetings, and combined adolescent IBD clinics with the paediatric gastroenterologists. There are strong links with Cardiff University’s School of Medicine.

Duties will include in-patient luminal gastroenterology with a particular focus on IBD, including a 1 in 10 rota for weekend GI and liver emergency ward rounds based at University Hospital of Wales. There will be participation in a 1 in 13 emergency endoscopy rota. The post holder will not participate in the general medical on-call rota but the team review all new GI and liver admissions daily including weekends. The post holder will be expected to have a wide range of competencies in gastroenterology.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.

Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.

You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £74,393 per annum to £96,583 per annum plus a further £26,148 per annum available in Commitment Awards.

In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
