Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a new Acute Physician. The post will join the Clinical Assessment and Treatment (CAT) team and support the Clinical Assessment, Triage and Treatment (CATT) ward.

The CAT team is a consultant led, multidisciplinary team for emergency and ambulatory care. CAT offers fast, efficient ambulatory and ongoing care for patients with acute care needs. CAT has a close and excellent working relationship with our local GPs and community services and GPs can access Acute Consultant directly for advice and support.

CAT enjoys overwhelming support within the Acute Trust and is fully supported by diagnostic services including a very responsive radiology service. CAT works in partnership with a strong MDT including specialist nurses and the adult community teams

The CAT concept puts the patient first, fast tracking assessments and diagnostics, lessening delays and waits and avoiding unnecessary hospital admissions. It is leading the way in ambulatory care and the development of a wider workforce which includes Acute Care Practitioners.

The CATT ward provides short stay care for acutely unwell patients who need admission for further investigation, treatment and diversion into the relevant base ward.

It is run by a well led and experienced team who are highly focused on delivering a high quality service which drives timely discharge into the most appropriate service for the individual’s needs.

In addition, the role will include undergraduate teaching commitments. These will be primarily ward based within the CATT ward and clinical area, but to include a contribution to classroom-based teaching.   Working as appropriate with the clinical skills trainers and other colleagues, the postholder will develop teaching opportunities in the clinical environment such as training ward rounds, training clinics and targeted multi-professional learning opportunities for medical students and physician associate students.

The post holder will join the General Medicine on call rota.

This is an opportunity to join an organisation in which Consultants are at the forefront of organisational development and service improvement.  The post is intended to further enhance the quality of service provided by the CAT/CATT team and provide the opportunity to help us implement plans to enhance our ambulatory care offer and support the future development of emergency and acute medical care for our local area.

Applicants must hold, or expect to hold within six months of the date of interview, an appropriate CCT (or equivalent) and be listed on the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register.

For further information or to arrange an informal visit please contact Dr John Smith on 01423 553742. Further enquiries can be made to the General Manager, Helen Siewruk-Barnes at or 01423 88 5959.
