Two Consultant General Surgeons with an Interest in Colorectal Surgery
An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Consultant General Surgeons with an interest in Colorectal Surgery to join the General Surgical Team at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust.
Working as part of a team of eight General Surgeons, the successful candidates must be competent in providing acute and elective general surgical services, and laparoscopic colorectal surgery. In addition, the post-holder requires excellent organisational and communication skills, and must be a team player committed to providing high quality care.
These posts will help to support and enhance the current general surgical service, and respond to the increasing demand by colorectal patients choosing Harrogate as a choice provider. In addition, the successful applicants will help to support the expansion of our emergency and diagnostic general surgical service in Harrogate and North Leeds, and will be welcomed into a dynamic multidisciplinary team where we are proud of the services we provide. The Trust is the lead provider of Bowel Cancer Screening and Bowel Scope in Harrogate, Leeds and York, and with our new JAG accredited Endoscopy Unit due to open in the summer, you would be part of an exciting and growing service in Harrogate.
The department prides itself on team working and close collaboration with clinical colleagues across the Trust in providing a high quality general surgical acute service, and the successful candidate would be part of a 1 in 8 Consultant of the week on-call model. The model was developed and implemented in August 2016, the purpose of which was to improve the quality and safety of emergency general surgical services at HDFT. The rota for the model ensures the on-call Consultant is relieved from the vast majority of clinical duties and elective commitments for one full week (bar some outpatient clinic capacity for urgent and new patients); this runs from 5.00pm Friday to 5.00pm the following Friday. This enables the General Surgeon Consultant to work with colleagues in the Emergency Department, GP practices, and colleagues from across the Trust in providing senior decision-making and leadership to team’s responsible for managing general surgical emergencies, in addition to maximising the continuity of care for surgical patients admitted.
A leading organisation for laparoscopic surgery, this is an excellent opportunity to join the General Surgical Team at an exciting time for the Trust. All applicants must possess Specialist Registration with the GMC, or be within 6 months of completing a training programme recognised for the award of CCST or equivalent in General Surgery FRCS, or equivalent and JAG accreditation for colonoscopy.
Interested applicants are encouraged to contact Mr Matthew Adelekan, Consultant General and Breast Surgeon and Clinical Lead for General Surgery and Breast (tel: 01423 554499; email: firstname.lastname@example.org) or Mr Chris Mahon, Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon (tel: 01423 553372, email: email@example.com)
