PERMANENT Consultant Histopathologist x 3 up to £103,490
Applications are invited for three Consultant Histopathologist positions within the pathology service which comprise 3 Hospitals in Dorset area. These are replacement posts and the appointee may opt to work on one site or, may work across the three hospitals as part of the wider Pathology team.
The intended posts are based on a 10PA contract however the appointees may be offered one extra PA due to the clinical workload. In line with the Royal College of Pathologists guidelines, the posts will attract 2 xPAs within the 10 PA contract. The appointees are expected to develop a special interest to complement the interest of existing consultants. Any applicant who is unable for personal reasons, to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.
This is a permanent position with salary up to £103,490 pa dependent on skills and experience
The specific managerial arrangement will be dependent on the site chosen by the candidate. Generally, you will report to the clinical lead for histopathology on site and through them to the Pathology General Manager (or equivalent), Clinical Director, Medical Director and Trust Board.
The appointees will be expected to participate in clinical audit, continuing professional development (CPD) and in relevant quality assurance and proficiency testing. Consultants in the department participate in the Regional General Histopathology EQA, National Breast Screening EQA and other EQAs related to their special interests. The appointees will, together with the agreement of consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of the routine frozen sections, histopathology and cytology (but not gynaecological cytology) service. There will be an opportunity to perform hospital post mortem examinations at the Bournemouth Borough Mortuary at the candidate’s discretion. The department does not provide an on-call/out of hours service.
The appointee will be expected to participate in the management of the service. The configuration of responsibilities will be reviewed from time to time and the appointee will be expected to work with consultant colleagues to provide a reliable and expeditious service.
The histopathology departments at three hospitals take part in and run various clinicopathological/ multidisciplinary meetings. The appointees are expected to be involved in the teaching of specialist registrars (who come for head & neck and gynaecological pathology teaching) and other personnel as required. Double headed microscopes are available in each of the consultants’ rooms, with a multi-headed microscope in the cytology laboratory.
