Clinical Fellow Scheme (Leadership/Management and Informatics fellows) 2018/2019

Health Education England – working across the north east and north Cumbria, working in partnership with the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management (FMLM) and the North East’s Lead Employer Trust (NE LET), are delighted to offer another clinical fellow scheme to enthusiastic and motivated trainees with an interest in leadership, management or clinical informatics and those who are interested in learning more about these areas.
The north east and north Cumbria has high standards of postgraduate medical training, as defined by trainee feedback and results of the GMC survey and is committed to enhancing the training and educational experiences available for junior doctors.
Clinical Fellows will work to an apprenticeship model to the Postgraduate Dean and other senior personnel across the region. The scheme will offer experience and oppor-tunities to develop a range of valuable skills whilst leading or participating in key work streams that address local challenges including: recruitment, trainee engagement, pol-icy development, international schemes, professionalism, clinical informatics and teaching and quality improvement. The programme offers trainees the opportunity to have a tangible impact on service improvement, workforce transformation, engage-ment and morale, and education and training, and work to deliver better outcomes for patients, colleagues and organisations.
Successful candidates will be given a comprehensive induction programme which aims to prepare fellows for their year ahead. In addition to the induction programme, there will be funding and study leave to undertake a relevant postgraduate qualification. Clin-ical Fellows will be expected to deliver a substantial project within the year and also be encouraged to work collaboratively on projects with colleagues throughout the region and nationally and to share learning with other regions and organisations. The pro-gramme offers flexible opportunities to develop a portfolio of skills and experience that will benefit future consultant / GP posts and leadership roles, and build a profile as a future clinical leader. This scheme will suit trainees who are willing to work in uncertain environments across traditional boundaries and relish the opportunity to develop their own ideas and initiatives.
