Consultant in Emergency Medicine
Applications are invited for enthusiastic Consultants in Emergency Medicine to join a cohesive, friendly and supportive team at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth.
The appointments will fill Consultant vacancies and then strengthen and further expand the existing complement of a team of 13 WTE Emergency Medicine Consultants and 2.5 Paediatric Emergency Medicine Consultants with additional sessions from three Nurse Consultants, Paediatric and Intensive Care colleagues.
These appointments will be in addition to the current consultant numbers and represent a commitment from the Trust to develop a 7 day service in the Emergency Department.
Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust is a very large District General Hospital with a wide range of specialities and provides services to a population of over 600,000. The Emergency Department has just embarked on an exciting 3 year project to redesign and rebuild the department.
The Emergency Department sees over 115,000 patients per year of which 25% are Paediatric. Portsmouth hosts a Ministry of Defence Hospital Unit and this link has resulted in high standards of trauma care.
The department provides staffing and advice to local MIUs and is contracted by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency to provide medical advice to shipping around the world. Further work is currently underway to expand this service in the provision of medical advice to maritime services via another partner within the maritime medical industry.
In recent years the department has evolved to provide ultrasound mentoring, significant research activity and high levels of training recognised by recent reviews.
There is a Paediatric Emergency Department which provides Paediatric sub-speciality training to ST7 and GRID trainees.
The department has 3 Consultant Nurses who are an integral part of the senior team. As a result the department has a forward thinking approach to the development of an Allied Health Professional cadre including Emergency Nurse Practitioners and both adult and Paediatric Advanced Clinical Practitioners.

Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship
Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. The UK Visas and Immigration department requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.
From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.
