We are looking to appoint a Consultant in Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare in Gloucestershire. This is a substantive post of 7 PAs. Based at Hope House in Gloucester this role offers a unique opportunity to work in our integrated contraception and sexual health service providing complex contraception care & pregnancy advisory service offering the full range of abortion care.

This is an exciting and rewarding role, which will involve working independently and as part of a strong clinical team to provide high quality care. The successful candidate is expected to have wide experience and skills in abortion care such as surgical terminations under general anaesthetic and manual vacuum aspiration under local anaesthetic, overseeing medical terminations, ultrasound scanning and managing complications of terminations. We are currently commissioned to provide abortions up to 17 + 6 weeks, it would be expected if the candidate was not currently able to do this they would be willing to train. You will have a leading role across our integrated sexual health service and in particular work closely with the team to develop the pregnancy advisory service.

Sexual Health services for the county are provided by Gloucestershire Care Services. There is comprehensive provision of integrated sexual health, HIV, psychosexual medicine, counselling, complex contraception, level 3 GUM, and Pregnancy Advisory Services. In addition the Sexual Assault Referral Centre is co-located and has strong links to Sexual Health. Sexual Health Services are provided from a range of settings, Hope House being the main Hub.

Cheltenham and Gloucester lie at the head of the Severn Estuary, midway between London and South Wales. Gloucester is an old Roman fortification and an historic cathedral city. Cheltenham is a large Regency town renowned for its music, literary and cricket festivals and for the ‘Cheltenham Gold Cup’.Gloucestershire is well known for its cultural and leisure activities and has many excellent state and private schools as well as colleges of higher education and its own university (the University of Gloucestershire).

Both Cheltenham and Gloucester are close to the M5 motorway, providing easy access to the university facilities of Bristol, Cardiff and Birmingham. Oxford lies 40 miles to the east on the A40.Cheltenham and Gloucester are served by the train network with easy access by to Birmingham and the north and Bristol and the south west of the country.There is a direct train service to London Paddington.The airports at Bristol and Birmingham are about an hour away and London Heathrow airport is less than 2 hours by road
