We are a pioneering research active organisation and we are proud to be doing things differently; whether that be redefining the shape of the local health and care system through our innovative plans for integrated care, or developing new services such as our Frail Older Person’s Assessment Service and our Medically Fit for Discharge Ward.

As well as creating the future, we also know the importance of providing really good, safe, and caring services for our patients. Our iCARE ethos sets out the principles which every member of our staff works to, ensuring good communication, attitude, respect and care for the hospital environment. Our patients tell us we’re getting this right, with our Friends and Family Test results consistently above 95 per cent (patients ‘extremely likely’ or ‘likely’ to recommend us to their friends and family).

Applications are invited for a substantive or fixed term Consultant Cellular Pathologist employed and based at Yeovil District Hospital. The pathology services work with SPS is a joint venture between Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and a private sector partner, Integrated Pathology Partnerships (iPP). SPS has invested in a state of the art hub laboratory and equipment to deliver streamlined, high quality, cost effective pathology services across the South West. The service has full CPA accreditation.

We are a small friendly Pathology department and the successful candidate will make up a team of 3.6 WTE consultants providing a comprehensive diagnostic histopathology and non-gynaecological cytopathology service. They will also be part of a wider team with 7 pathologists based at Musgrove Park Hospital. Together the team provides a cross-county service for Yeovil and Musgrove Park Hospitals. The post involves general histopathology and non-gynaecological cytology. Other specialist interests can be accommodated. There is no requirement to report gynaecological cytology. There is an opportunity to undertake post mortem work but this is optional. Any opportunity to earn additional income is divided equally amongst the consultants.

Yeovil District Hospital cellular pathology has a long established philosophy that consultant, laboratory and secretarial staff work together as a team, respecting each other’s integral roles in providing a safe, efficient and responsive service. Being a team player and upholding this outlook is essential to the post.

Our surgical and medical colleagues are very appreciative of the high quality diagnostic service we provide and this is reflected in our excellent working relationships with our clinical colleagues. The work rota is organised in a fashion that takes in to account particular needs of each consultant, whether they be work related or particular personal circumstances.
