An excellent opportunity exists to join our dynamic and forward thinking Respiratory team as a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine. This position is based at our St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester, part of the Western Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.
The appointee will join our dynamic, innovative and forward thinking respiratory team. There are currently three whole time equivalent consultant posts on each of the Chichester and Worthing sites and approval has been granted to expand the establishment to four posts on each site (including this post).
The department is increasingly developing sub-specialist services- these are currently Interstitial Lung Disease, Bronchiectasis, Pulmonary Hyper-tension and the new post-holder would be encouraged to develop and take on some sub-speciality lead roles. We invite candidates to discuss this directly with our existing team with a view to expansion of our current service provision.
The proposed respiratory consultant expansion on both sites is also with a view to promoting enhanced ambulatory, domiciliary and in-reach care. We have recently been successful in the local commissioning of home NIV services by NHS Sussex. We are working towards provision of an ambulatory pleural service. It is also our aim to work towards 7 day specialist in-reach care and this post will further support this.
We work closely with our colleagues in Oncology which is provided by Portsmouth Hospitals. We hold a weekly cancer MDT which is attended by our Oncologists and visiting Thoracic surgeon from St George’s Hospital.
Oncology clinics and chemotherapy are on site in Chichester with radiotherapy in Portsmouth (LINAC planned to be sited in Chichester soon). The visiting Thoracic Surgeon also holds clinics weekly on the Chichester site.

All newly appointed Consultants are mentored, via the “WSHFT Mentor-ship scheme for senior medical staff”.
Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of attaining Specialist Registration at the time of interview. Applications from candidates who, for personal reasons, are unable to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for this post.
