Applications are welcome for the above permanent, 40 hours per week post based in the Western General Hospital.
We are looking for 3 consultant anaesthetists to join a dedicated, supportive and professional team at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. The Western is a large acute hospital situated in central Edinburgh providing tertiary services in oncology, neurosciences, colorectal surgery and infectious diseases. It also provides a range of acute medical specialties including cardiology, respiratory, endocrinology and neurology. Surgical specialties include colorectal, breast, urology and neurosurgery.
The anaesthetic department consists of 26 consultants, 1 associate specialist and up to 18 trainees from Southeast Scotland Deanery. There are also three acute pain nurses and a dedicated departmental administrator. The hospital has a 16-bedded Critical Care Unit.
Successful applicants would be part of a team delivering high quality care to one of the largest colorectal units in the UK, regional cancer services and tertiary neurosciences, which includes a regional neuro-interventional radiology service. Subspecialty interests in perioperative medicine, anaesthesia for colorectal surgery or neuroanaesthesia would be advantageous but other subspecialty interests could be accommodated.
The post consists of 10PAs per week with 7PAs DCC and 2SPAs plus 1PA for on call. There are currently 3 non-resident consultant-on call rotas at the WGH: general, neuroanaesthesia and critical care. This post would provide on call commitments to the general rota.
Our department has a wide training remit and current consultant teaching interests include national difficult airway teaching, a simulator programme, FRCA exam preparation courses and a perioperative medicine programme.

Applicants are required to be on the GMC specialist register or within 6 months of their expected date of receipt of CCT at the time of interview. Full registration with a licence to practice with the GMC is essential.
