Applications are invited to apply for a Specialty Doctor post in General Surgery at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
This post typically involves working on a resident on call rota, so depending on agreement, this post would normally exceed the basic 10 PA full time contract.
The General Surgery CSU consists of 20 Consultants, 1 Associate Specialist, 12 Specialty Doctors, 2 Trust Doctors, 3 Senior House Officers and 12 FY1s.
The successful candidates will be expected to have GMC Registration and Medical degree & FRCS/MRCS or equivalent. They should have a minimum of 4 years’ experience at Registrar level in General and Emergency Surgery and to be able to fully fulfil the role of a Registrar on call. The candidate should have the ability to manage common surgical emergencies including Laparoscopic Appendectomy, Perforated DU, Hartmanns Procedure and Exploratory Laparotomies.
The successful applicant will be expected to participate in teaching both under and postgraduate students associated with the University of Buckingham and will also be expected to support colleagues doing these activities as part of his or her arranged job plan.

This is an important step towards establishing the Trust as a first class centre of teaching excellence. The first students arrived on wards in May 2015 and a medical school building is under construction, which will create exciting opportunities in the future for all staff in the fields of clinical research and education.
This exciting new phase will include opportunities for undergraduate and post graduate teaching, enhanced research facilities. A teaching and research background would be highly advantageous when applying for this position.
