Consultant General Anaesthetics with an interest in Pain Medicine
Nestled in the heart of Cheshire, with green fields bordering the site on every side, Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust staff benefit from great work, home, education and leisure opportunities. You are invited for a Consultant General Anaesthetist with an Interest in Pain Medicine. You will join a team of 24 Consultants Anaesthetists, based at Leighton Hospital in Crewe. This post is a replacement post which has arisen due to retirement. Duties in theatres will include anaesthetic cover for a wide variety of surgical specialties including paediatric, orthopaedic and ear nose and throat surgery. This post is 10 PA and which includes an on-call commitment of 1 in 14(when post recruited to) and participation in weekend trauma lists. T
he hospital provides acute services for Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, with a catchment population of around 290,000. There is a new ‘state-of-the-art’ theatre and critical care complex together with an associated reception, recovery rooms and supporting facilities. This theatre complex comprises of a surgical admission lounge, 8 theatres, and 4 day case theatres.
There is a 24 hour a day emergency theatre and a trauma list each day, with morning trauma lists at the weekend covered by Consultants.
The Critical Care Unit is an integrated 14-bedded area with 2 isolation rooms and a suite for visiting relatives. There are 9 Consultants who provide 16 session cover per week for the unit.
There is a nurse-based Outreach Service led by a Consultant nurse, and staffed out of hours by the nurse in charge of the Critical Care Unit.
The Maternity Department contains 6 rooms on the Labour Ward and 3 rooms with pools on the Midwifery-Led Unit. There are 2 integrated fully equipped maternity theatres and a 2-bedded recovery area. There are 10 Consultant anaesthetic sessions per week. The hospital cares for more than 2,500 deliveries per annum, with a 10% epidural rate.
There is an acute pain service, (2 acute pain nurses and a Consultant Anaesthetist) the anaesthetic department cover acute pain out-of-hours.
There are 2 Consultants with an interest in Chronic Pain Medicine. This post has arisen due to the retirement of the current post holder. Each Consultant has outpatient clinics (currently within the hospital setting) and a pain procedural list within the theatre complex. The Consultants are supported by a community pain service and a tertiary pain management programme at Walton Centre.
You must have full registration with the GMC including a License to Practice, and be on the Specialist Register (or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training).
