Consultant in Maternal and Fetal Medicine
Applications are invited for this post, created to increase expertise in High Risk Obstetrics & Maternal-Fetal Medicine within the Trust and to provide leadership and innovation within the Directorate of Maternity & Perinatal Medicine.
The Trust is one of the largest Teaching Trusts in the UK, employing 6500 staff, serving a population of over 500,000 and having around 1000 beds. In partnership with PCTs and Local Authorities the Trust is seeking to deliver an ambitious redevelopment of local health services including new models of care and facilities. The plan includes a new state of the art acute hospital (Midland Metropolitan Hospital) which is set to open in 2020. This will create some of the largest clinical teams in the country, including a new, large single-site Maternity Unit.
The Trust is fully committed to continuing to develop its Maternity Services, which have received CNST Level 3 recognition. As such, it has invested significantly in the Directorate and will continue to do so to promote an exceptional standard. The successful applicant will be joining a dynamic, evolving team which is driven to develop excellence of service for women.
All maternity services are provided at City Hospital, delivering approximately 6000 women per year, where there is a large level 2+ NNU and full capability to provide HDU and ITU care to our mothers where required. There is a nationally recognized co-located midwifery-led birthing unit.
Maternal medicine and all antenatal services have been completely redeveloped since 2011 with the provision of a wide range of dedicated, duel-consultant run specialist clinics, often in conjunction with medical physician colleagues. These cover all the main obstetric medical co-morbidities. There is a dedicated, staffed Fetal medicine Unit (formed in 2010) which provides full diagnostic, screening and therapeutic services to our population and works closely with our neonatal teams, regional clinical genetics, paediatric surgical and cardiology services and other relevant health professionals to provide optimal care for women whose pregnancies are complicated by fetal genetic or structural disease. The post holder will join an expanding team of dedicated obstetricians (with expertise in Maternal and Fetal Medicine) and allied professionals providing these specialist services and will be expected to develop their own clinical interests.
This post joins the consultant rota providing 98 hours consultant presence on delivery suite. The job plan is full-time and includes regular on call on Friday/weekend (1:8) with prospective cover. There is dedicated time & support for the post holder to develop the managerial & governance skills required to provide dynamic leadership to our motivated Labour Ward, Fetal Medicine & other clinical teams.
Applicants are required to have CCT or equivalent and entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Obstetrics and Gynaecology; full GMC registration, MRCOG (or equivalent) and have completed RCOG accredited Subspeciality training in maternal & fetal medicine (or equivalent).
