2x Consultant Physicians - General and Geriatric Medicine
City Hospital, Birmingham and Sandwell General Hospital, West Bromwich
Applications are invited for two posts of Consultant Physicians in Geriatric and General Medicine at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust. Applicants must possess recognised training and broad experience in Geriatric Medicine and full registration with GMC. Applicants must be on the GMC specialist register or be within six months of achieving CCT in GIM and Geriatric Medicine at the date of the interview.
These are replacement posts and successful candidates will joins a team of 7 Geriatricians who works cross site with widespread interests. The two posts will involve working in a rotational model of working across both sites with an opportunity to work in specialist areas of interest such as Front door Frailty service, Parkinson’s disease, falls, Orthogeriatrics and surgical liaison.
In alignment with our 2020 vision, our 7 day consultant led workforce plans on a single acute site the Midland Metropolitan Hospital include admitting specialty consultants working across the 7 day profile. We will achieve this by redistributing our 5 day work plans across 7 days and investing in admitting speciality consultants. In preparation for this teams will be required to work across the 2 existing acute sites as we prepare teams for our future models of care. This also provides excellent training and team development opportunities.
The posts require enthusiastic clinicians who can demonstrate a commitment to multidisciplinary working and an ability to participate in the development, planning, management and delivery of services in liaison with colleagues. The successful appointee will also be expected to participate in the on-call rota for un-selected acute medical admissions which is shared with other consultant colleagues. This is a full time post but those who wish to work less than full time will be considered.
The Trust has a very good reputation for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching with strong links to the University of Birmingham and Health Education West Midlands. The Trust is home to a number of University departments that are involved in active research. The applicant will be expected to be involved in education and supervision of medical students and junior doctors.
On 14th July 2014 the Trust received the go ahead to build the 670 bed Midland Metropolitan Hospital (MMH) and secured funding of £360m to do so. The new state of the art acute hospital in Grove Lane, Smethwick will bring together all acute services onto one site promoting better patient safety and patient experience.
The Trust is a key partner with the local commissioning group and the local authorities in the Right Care Right Here programme which seeks to deliver a redevelopment of local health services. The programme includes one of the largest investments in the UK with new facilities in both the acute and community sectors. Included within this is the new Midland Metropolitan Hospital.
