You are invited for this new post in the Department of Medical Microbiology at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. This department is fully compliant with the standards contained in ISO 15189 as accredited by UKAS and provides a comprehensive diagnostic service to NHS Grampian (population. approx. 500,000), some referral work from NHS Orkney and NHS Shetland and a nationally funded antibiotic susceptibility testing service for cystic fibrosis non-fermenters. 
    
You will join five other Consultant Microbiologists in the diagnostic work of the Laboratory as well as in clinical liaison and infection prevention and control. Currently there are two joint trainees with Infectious Diseases. You will contribute to all aspects of service delivery including teaching, audit research and service development. The department has existing successful research programmes on MRSA, antibiotic resistance and antibiotic stewardship. 

The successful applicant will be appointed on an 8: 2 DCA: SPA contract. The post attracts an on-call availability supplement.

Aberdeen Royal Infirmary is a 1,000 bed Tertiary Referral Teaching Hospital with extensive University links and facilities on-site and you will have the opportunity to contribute to Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching. An Honorary University position will likely be offered. Aberdeen is a beautiful coastal city with marvellous beaches and golf courses, located on Royal Deeside, next to the Cairngorm National Park. It is one of the driest, sunniest parts of the UK.
