Clinical Fellowship Post (Equivalent of Specialist Trainee 6+) in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine
Fellow in Cystic Fibrosis
Commencing 1st May 2018

Applications are invited for the above post, which involves the management of children with cystic fibrosis. The Respiratory Unit at GOSH Trust is one of the largest tertiary referral units for complex lung disease in the UK. There is a large outpatient service with weekly clinics for asthma, cystic fibrosis and complex lung disease.

The appointee will be involved in the care and management of cystic fibrosis patients. They will be attending CF clinic, perform annual assessments and present these at the weekly CF meeting. The post holder will also be involved in the teaching, research and academic programme of the Unit (see job plan below). The appointee will acquire skills in the management of Cystic Fibrosis and lung disease in children with complex medical conditions, both in the inpatient and outpatient setting. He/she will become proficient in the interpretation of lung function and chest imaging. There will be an opportunity to become familiar with the basics of flexible bronchoscopy. They will also share in the management of general respiratory inpatients, during periods of absence of the ward registrars.

The post would best suit a trainee in paediatric respiratory medicine who wishes to gain additional subspeciality experience in this centre. It would also suit an applicant at an earlier stage of training who wishes to subspecialise in paediatric respiratory medicine, or a paediatrician who has completed training, and who wishes to gain additional subspeciality experience prior to taking up a consultant post.

Applicants must have MRCPCH or equivalent and be fully registered with the General Medical Council. The post provides ample opportunity for training and well-supervised, high quality research. The post is EWTD compliant. Although the post is only until September 2018, there may be the opportunity of extending it further and/or rotating to another Fellows’ posts when appropriate and subject to appraisal and vacancies.
