Consultant Urological Surgeon
East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a full time Consultant Urological Surgeon with a focus on general urology and a special interest in developing new technologies. This replacement post will form part of a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward thinking department to make up a team of 10 Urological Consultants, who will be keen to offer support to develop new ideas. Research and Audit are strongly encouraged within the Trust and the department. You will be required to be experienced in General Urology and participate in a 1:10 On Call Rota with Middle Grade support.
East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust manages three acute district general hospitals in Margate, Canterbury and Ashford with two supporting hospitals at Dover and Folkestone. The Trust is one of the largest in the country, employing over 6,500 staff and serves a population of over 720,000. You will be based at Kent and Canterbury Hospital, on the outskirts of the Cathedral City of Canterbury.
The Urology Department is part of the Surgical Division which encompasses all Trust-wide Surgical Specialties, Anaesthetics, Critical Care and Chronic Pain. You will be a highly motivated, ambitious individual who will join a well-integrated, dynamic team. The unit has a dedicated urology ward consisting of 36 beds with additional day case beds. The central hub of services is based at Kent & Canterbury together with peripheral clinics and diagnostic services. Services provided include robotic surgery, ESWL, PCNL, upper tract endourology, blue light endoscopy, paediatric urology and a full range of outpatient therapeutics. We have a team of 5 Cancer Nurse Specialists, and our diagnostic nurse team has been nominated for a BJN national award.
You will have a specialist interest in endoscopic, diagnostic and therapeutic urology, and the assessment and adoption of new technologies. They will demonstrate the ability for audit and research in these areas. You will be required to actively support and develop Urology services for East Kent. You will also support the General Urology elective as well as emergency caseload, therefore a broad based training and experience in Urology is essential.
