Consultant Intervention Cardiologist
Location – Southampton General Hospital

Online applications are invited for a Consultant cardiologist with an interest in coronary intervention at the Wessex Regional Cardiac Unit, Southampton University Hospitals Trust. This is a full time post in cardiology for an experienced interventionist. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the out of hours consultant cover on a 1:6 rota which will include a 1:6 day time cover for emergency/urgent intervention and when on call. The post holder will also participate in ward rounds and management of CCU and Cardiac High Care. The post holder will be expected to cover the absence of colleagues whilst they are on annual leave or study leave to provide seamless 24/7 service provision including Primary PCI with the other interventional cardiologists.
Training and Research
Undergraduate medical students from the Southampton University Medical School are taught throughout the Trust and the post holder is required to participate in undergraduate clinical teaching. The post holder is also required to participate in audit, research and the teaching of postgraduates, cardiac physiologists and nursing staff.
Administrative and Management Duties
The post holder will be required to undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and running the clinical department. Secretarial support will be provided. The successful candidate will be an experienced clinician who will be able to provide strong leadership for the juniors and supportive staff.
Applicants should have a CCT or be on the GMC’s Specialist Register. Applicants within 3 months of their CCT date are also welcome to apply; you should provide evidence of this with your application. Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible.
