Consultant Chemical Pathologist
Applications are sought for a whole-time (10 PAs) replacement post from an enthusiastic Consultant Chemical Pathology.
The applicants will complement and strengthen the current Biochemistry services within Barnsley and Rotherham Integrated Laboratory Service (BRILS).
The appointee(s) will possess full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for regis-tration within six months of interview), holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview and FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualification.
Biochemistry is currently established with three Consultant posts across the Barnsley and Rotherham Integrated Laboratory Service, currently based on two sites.
The main purpose of the post is to be the Head of Clinical Biochemistry and to undertake a Lipid clinic each week. Each Laboratory site has a BMS Manager, supported by a team of BMS and support staff.
This post affords the ability to work within this collaboration and is a re-placement post due to retirement of the current post holder. Any consultant who is unable for personal reasons to work full time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with the Clinical Director.
The post will appeal to suitably qualified persons who are enthusiastic and who are looking for a stimulating and challenging career.
The post holder will be encouraged to develop a special interest and contribute to the provision of a local lipid clinic.
The appointee will benefit from a spacious, well-appointed office, as well as becoming one of the team in a friendly, well-run department. BRILS serves a local population of approximately 500,000.
The department enjoys close links with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and there are opportunities to pursue honorary academic positions within Sheffield University.
Barnsley itself is only five miles from Sheffield and close enough to the Peak District to offer a wide range of amenities and leisure activities. It’s conveniently situated, with excellent motorway access and is close to the Meadowhall Shopping Centre.
It is less than two hours from London by train, and has four international airports nearby. There are excellent local state and private education fa-cilities.
Prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to visit the department.
