Applications are invited for the prestigious post of Scottish Arthroplasty Project (SAP) Fellow with a clinical component based at the Department of Orthopaedics, Golden Jubilee National Hospital (GJNH). This post is suitable for orthopaedic surgeons at any stage of training and provides a unique opportunity for a highly motivated individual to access a national arthroplasty database for research purposes in order to significantly enhance the portfolio of published papers from the SAP.

The post-holder will carry out both self-directed research and allocated projects from the SAP Research Sub-Committee in order to maximise the value of this data and use it to help drive quality and improvement in orthopaedics. ISD Honorary Status will be granted and IT support will be available from an ISD Information Analyst. In addition to producing a high volume of peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, the post-holder may wish to register for a doctoral thesis.

The post-holder will be supervised by the SAP Fellow Research Sub-Committee with potential involvement of other Orthopaedic Consultants depending on the nature of the projects undertaken.

The clinical aspect of the job is based at the GJNH and will provide clinical support for both day time and out of hours RMO rotas. This will predominantly involve orthopaedic in-patients and elective theatres in addition to general surgery and plastic surgery patients within the hospital. The post will provide the opportunity to work with high volume surgeons in one of the largest lower limb arthroplasty centres in the UK and gain experience in all aspects of arthroplasty. There will be regular opportunities to assist in theatre and, if appropriate, carry out supervised operations.

The post is for a fixed term of 6 or 12 months in the first instance and will start in August 2018. Fellows who undertake this post during Higher Surgical Training may have it recognised as out of programme research (OOPR) with retention of their NTN. The post is not educationally approved.
