Medical Examiners x2
Two part-time posts (2 year fixed term, total of 6 PAs )
In 2007, in response to the recommendations of the Shipman Inquiry, the Department of Health (DH) called for reform of the current death certifi-cation process. Based upon the inquiry’s findings, the DH proposed that a new role of Medical Examiner be established within healthcare envi-ronments.
In 2017, A publication, ‘Learning from Deaths Guidance’, stipulated that Trusts should be rigorous in their investigation of those patient deaths determined by certain criteria and / or by concerns raised by relatives.
West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking to employ two part-time Medical Examiners, for a fixed term period of two years in the first instance.
The Medical Examiners will be senior doctors who will verify clinical information on Medical Certificates of Cause of Death (MCCDs). They will also ensure appropriate referrals to the Coroner and ensure accuracy and consistency of MCCD content.

The successful applicants will be Consultant grade or General Practitioner equivalent, with General Medical Council registration.
They will have up to date medical knowledge of medical conditions, treatments and medicines and detailed knowledge of legislation and pro-cesses regarding coroners and death certification.
Excellent communication, judgement and leadership skills are essential.
