Specialist Haematologist – Permanent
Waikato District Health Board, Hamilton, New Zealand
Part time position from 1 June 2018
Waikato Hospital is a large tertiary hospital in Hamilton, serving 750,000 people across the upper middle of New Zealand’s North Island.
The Haematology service is part of the Regional Cancer Centre, incorporating a full mix of Haematology, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Palliative Care services. Inpatient care is provided at Waikato Hospital and outpatient services across the region in collaboration with neighbouring hospitals. The principal focus of the service is high-quality patient care with particular emphasis on multidisciplinary patient management. In addition to this we have a strong commitment to staff education/development.
Services provided include haematologic malignancies (including acute leukaemia, high-grade lymphoma and autologous transplantation), general and obstetric haematology, haemostasis-thrombosis and laboratory haematology. We work closely with the on-site Transfusion Medicine Specialist from the NZ Blood Service. Laboratory services include flow cytometry and cytogenetics, and molecular diagnostics. There is an active trials programme. Student teaching is part of the Waikato Clinical School of the University of Auckland Medical School.
Current staffing is 7 haematologists including a laboratory haematopathologist, 6 registrars and 4 nurse specialists. Our haematologists have a broad range of skills and interests and candidates might therefore offer a range of different experience and skills to the department. However, clinical care, including of haematologic malignancies, will be an important part of the position.
Applicants will be a clinical and laboratory haematologist holding or eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (FRACP & FRCPA, or equivalent).
