This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and ambitious Senior Adult Medical Services team at St Peter’s Hospital. You are invited to apply for a Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine with an interest in Acute Frailty or an Acute Physician with an interest and experience in Frailty.
Senior Adults are increasingly making up the majority of acute hospital admissions and frailty syndromes are being impacted upon by chronic medical conditions and increasing functional needs of this demographic. You will be responsible along with like-minded thinking colleagues in being a part of an exciting, enterprising and forward thinking team who are passionately involved with the management and care of these patient groups.
The department has historically been at the forefront of Quality and Improvement and has also had the privilege of winning the prestigious HSJ Award for Managing Long Term Conditions with the Nursing Home Project in 2012, RCP Excellence Award in Patient Care in 2017 and more recently in March 2018, (OPSSU) Older People Short Stay Unit and the OPSSU Team have been nominated for its 1st National Award (HSJ) under the category ‘Improving value in the care of frail older patients’.
Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals achieved a status of Foundation Trust in December 2010 the Trust was created following a merger of St Peter’s Hospital and Ashford Hospital in 1998. It is the largest Trust that is not classified as a University Teaching Hospital in the region and provides a full range of acute hospital services such as hyper acute stroke management, primary PCI & interventional cardiology, and fracture neck of femur management with the award winning and nationally recognised and published Orthogeriatrics and Orthopaedic Consultant of the Week model (COW), to name a few. It is also recognised as a Major Trauma Unit (MTU) with liaison between the Orthopaedic Surgeons and Geriatricians in managing Trauma Care in the Elderly.
Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals serves a population of around 450,000 from an area which includes Chertsey, Woking, Walton-on-Thames, Weybridge, Staines, Bedfont, Feltham and Spelthorne. There are 413 beds in a range of specialties. There is a full range of imaging services including CT and MRI scanning and laboratory services. Both hospital sites have thriving, modern and fully equipped postgraduate centres.
Ashford and St Peters Hospitals are located within Surrey in the western border of the M25 near London Heathrow. It is an affluent demographic known for its picturesque environment and high quality schools and high quality of life, with the added bonus of being very close to London with excellent rail connections and easy motorway links.
You will have the opportunity to develop interests in other areas with appropriate supervision and support as required, and there will be an additional commitment to the General Internal Medicine (GIM) on call rota. As such the candidate must be a holder of a CCST or equivalent in General Internal Medicine (GIM) and / or other relevant specialty; or be within six months of successfully completing CCST in GIM and / or other relevant specialty.
