Consultant in Haematology
Part-time applicants welcomed
We are looking for dynamic, forward thinking individual to join our award winning hospital. This is a substantive post and the successful candidate will be joining the department of Haematology at Ashford & St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Our team consists of three other full time consultants, one part time consultant, a full time Specialty Doctor and a group of Specialist Nurses in Haematology, Anticoagulation, Transfusion and Palliative Care. Our vacancy is for 10 PAs, but applications will be welcomed from applicants wishing to work part-time. The post is based at Ashford & St Peter’s working within the context of the Berkshire & Surrey Pathology Services network and the St. Luke’s Cancer Alliance. Broad general experience in both malignant and non-malignant Haematology is required. The department has a busy Outpatient and Day Unit service with a dedicated outpatient suite on the St Peter’s site; it undertakes level 1 inpatient activity and delivers a large Nurse Led Anticoagulant Service. The diagnostic pathology service forms part of the Berkshire & Surrey Pathology Services network, a formal NHS partnership with the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Frimley Health (Frimley Park and Wexham Park Hospitals) and Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts together serving a population approaching 2 million and providing a comprehensive test repertoire. St. Peter’s laboratory is the network hub for immunology, virology and thrombophilia.
Ashford & St Peter’s itself is one of the largest non-teaching Trusts in the region. It is an ambitious and successful organisation that gained Foundation status in 2010 and works closely with its community health partners. The Trust has 550 acute beds and serves a population of approximately 450,000. The acute services are provided on the St Peter’s hospital site, which has modern intensive and coronary care units and sees approximately 100,000 A&E attendances annually. Both sites have modern Postgraduate Centres.
Located just 35 minutes from London Waterloo and 25 minutes by car from South West London, we are closer to London than most people think. We are an exciting, friendly place to work with a “can do” approach to running a hospital. Examples include our CEO being recognised in the HSJ’s top 50 CEOs, HSJ Provider of the Year finalist and shortlisted for HSJ Board of the year. We were rated “Good” in our last CQC inspection, featured in the CHKS Top 40 hospital for four consecutive years and were one of only a few hospitals to achieve financial surplus in 2016-17. We have won awards for innovative approaches to staff engagement and improvement and were finalists in the 2016 national WOW! Awards.
It is essential that you possess MRCP (or equivalent training and experience), FRCPath or equivalent and are on the GMC specialist register or within 6 months of obtaining your CCST at the time of interview.
We are happy to discuss individual candidates’ interests and will be as flexible as we can so please contact us for discussion or to arrange a visit to the Trust.
