UHB is a regional centre for cancer, has the second largest renal dialysis programme in the UK and has the largest solid organ transplantation programme in Europe. It also provides a series of highly specialist cardiac and liver services and is a major specialist centre for burns and plastic surgery.
You are invited for Consultant in Palliative Medicine to cover non-malignant disease. You will be based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The hospital specialist palliative care team works across the Trust providing support on request from clinical colleagues. A growing number of our referrals now come from non-cancer colleagues and our team continues to explore ways in which to give improved supportive care both in cancer and non-cancer. This post, alongside an additional proposed Palliative Medicine Consultant post (for cancer patients) will help us meet the needs of the growing number of patients referred to our team. It will also expand our service in line with the anticipated need for improved access to palliative and supportive care as a result of the demographic shift expected over the next 20-30 years.
This role will be to focus primarily on the palliative medicine provision to non-cancer patients at QEH, you will participate as leading members of a multidisciplinary team.
You must have GMC Registration and be on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of the interview date. MRCP or equivalent. Previous experience/training in the required specialties is essential.
