Applications are invited to apply for a Consultant in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a replacement post offering 10 programmed activities.

Additional programmed activities may be available upon agreement.

This is a direct replacement post with no general surgical on call commitments to further develop our current breast oncoplastic surgical service. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic colleague with experience in breast oncoplastic surgery to join us to expand our oncoplastic service.  The breast unit is also a stand-alone NHSBSP screening unit covering Milton Keynes.

Currently, the breast unit has three Consultant Breast Surgeons, one Associate Specialist and one Specialty Doctor. There are also trainees from the Oxford region. As this is a replacement post the sessions are already organised and include an all day operating list. The breast unit is integrated with the general surgical department which also offers colorectal, urological, upper GI and emergency general surgical service provided by 12 consultants in total.

Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, in partnership with the University of Buckingham, is a University Teaching Hospital. This allows us to attract, train and retain the best doctors and contribute towards the financial stability of the organisation.

This is also an important step towards establishing the trust as a world-class centre for teaching excellence. The first students arrived on wards in May 2015 and by the beginning of 2018 a medical school building will have been constructed, which will also create exciting opportunities in the future for all staff in the fields of clinical research and education.

This exciting new phase will include opportunities for undergraduate and post graduate teaching, enhanced research facilities.  A teaching and research background would be highly advantageous when applying for this position.

We believe the continued growth of the hospital will allow us to expand and improve our services to offer the very best care to the people of Milton Keynes, and beyond.

Located just 50 miles north of London, Milton Keynes has excellent access to the capital whilst being centrally located for Oxford and Cambridge and having ease of access to the north. Lying in attractive countryside, Milton Keynes offers first class facilities for sport, theatre, music, shopping and dining.
