The CAMHS Inpatient Unit is located half an hour’s drive outside the Capital City of Cardiff, a cosmopolitan and vibrant city, host to sporting, recreational and cultural events. There are excellent transport links and within easy access to the M4 motorway. There are many areas of outstanding beauty nearby, for example the Gower and to the north the Brecon Beacons National Park. There is an excellent choice of housing and schools within easy travelling times to all relevant sites.
An opportunity has arisen for a whole time equivalent CAMHS Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in the CAMHS Inpatient Unit serving the population of South, Mid and West Wales.
This is a Consultant post sharing the clinical management of the inpatient adolescents with mental health concerns. The Unit is primarily an Assessment Unit with strong liaison with community in terms of treatment teams in different parts of South Mid and West Wales. Much of the work is with direct management of cases as inpatients but as much emphasis is on assessment in the community and liaising with other community teams and agencies.
The main clinical duties include:
- Clinical assessment of referrals made by Community Specialist CAMHS;
- Being a Responsible Clinician for patients who are admitted;
- Clinical assessment of admitted patients;
- Lead review meetings with a view to discharging patients with a plan after each review;
- Liaise with colleagues in different geographical areas that are served by the Unit;
- Undertake audits.There is an On Call commitment to the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Rota across the Cwm Taf CAMHS Provider Network of 1:16.
This is a 10 session post – 7 of these are clinical and 3 are to support professional activities (SPA)
