The Northern Territory Government Top End Health Service is currently recruiting for registrars and residents to work in the emergency departments of Royal Darwin Hospital and the Palmerston Regional Hospital, for either 6 or 12 month contracts.

Royal Darwin Hospital is the tertiary referral centre for the north west of Australia, covering some of the most remote communities on earth, with a catchment area of over 1 million square kilometres. The case-mix is unique with a young population (average age 29), and the highest per capita rates of acute rheumatic fever, TB, blunt and penetrating trauma in Australia. Royal Darwin Hospital also houses the Australian National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre for disaster operations in South East Asia. Palmerston Regional Hospital is a new purpose built facility, opening in July 2018, which will service the regional area adjacent to Darwin. Emergency medicine staffing will be combined over the two sites, with shared rosters, education, and models of care.

Royal Darwin Hospital is accredited by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine as a major referral centre for two years of advanced emergency training. Our medical staff receive paid protected teaching time weekly, incorporating practical workshops, invited speakers, high fidelity simulation and primary and fellowship exam preparation for ACEM trainees, as well as access to APLS, ALS, MIMMS, Australian Trauma Team Training and other courses.

Darwin is a vibrant, tropical, cosmopolitan city with a population of 200,000, boasting excellent access to world heritage national parks in Kakadu, Litchfield and the Kimberley. The lifestyle is laid back and friendly with an emphasis on outdoor leisure activities, particularly camping, bush walking, cycling, and fishing.

We offer a competitive remuneration package, with relocation assistance, initial onsite accommodation and 6 weeks recreation leave annually.

'We are now recruiting for 6-12 month rotations commencing August 2018 and February 2019'.
