We are seeking to appoint an additional Consultant Rheumatologist to join the existing award-winning Rheumatology team at NHS Grampian.
Rheumatology services are delivered in an attractive, recently refurbished, setting of a dedicated and integrated Rheumatology and Osteoporosis unit based on the Foresterhill site. The Department provides comprehensive Rheumatology services for the large geographical region of Grampian in NE Scotland (population approx. 560 000) and the islands of Orkney (population approx. 22,000). A close link already exists with the prestigious musculoskeletal research team at University of Aberdeen. Collaborative research in this and any other field will be actively encouraged. It is possible that an extra PA can be offered to candidates interested in becoming involved in commercial research projects. Our ankylosing spondylitis service is one of the first integrated services run in conjunction with Physiotherapy since the early 1992. The excellent clinical service has been further enhanced by the collaborative work with the University of Aberdeen who house the BSR ankylosing spondylitis registry and from 2018 onwards that for psoriatic arthritis.
The Aberdeen Rheumatology Team, both NHS and academic has been deemed a EULAR centre of excellence once more, the award running from 2010-2015 and now from 2015-2020.
The Department is supported by a dedicated group of Nurses and Allied Health Professionals. The successful applicant will provide a comprehensive clinical service with a strong focus on Inflammatory Joint Disease but will have the opportunity to develop sub specialty interests to complement those which currently exist within the department. These include CTD, Metabolic Bone Disease and Ankylosing Spondylitis. There is no on call commitment associated with this post.
The Foresterhill campus is reputed to be the largest in Europe with the principal medical services for Grampian and the Medical School closely integrated. On site are internationally renowned facilities such as the Institute for Medical Sciences, the Health Economic Research Unit and the shortly to be opened Rowett Institute of Nutrition.
