Consultant Microbiologist (Antimicrobial Stewardship Lead)
An exciting opportunity exists for a Consultant Microbiologist to join the team within Berkshire & Surrey Pathology Services, a joint venture between the Ashford & St. Peter’s Hospitals, Royal Surrey County Hospital, Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust and The Royal Berkshire Hospital. The current arrangement is that you will be based at St. Peter’s Hospital providing comprehensive microbiology and antimicrobial stewardship services to the Trust and community users in the catchment area along with two other consultant colleagues.
The laboratory has full UKAS accreditation, Laboratory facilities are based at two sites. At Frimley Park Hospital there is an extended laboratory on the ground floor with a full range of microbiological investigations, including routine culture, mycobacteriology, mycology and parasitology. Virology laboratory facilities are at St.Peter’s Hospital and include molecular diagnostics and serology. We are committed to exploring new ways of working and have Kiestra and MALDI-TOF.
Ashford & St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the largest provider of acute services to residents of Surrey and a growing proportion of west London residents, totalling more than 380,000 people. The Trust provides a broad range of acute healthcare services across its two hospital sites with a combined total bed allocation of approximately 550. Surrey Pathology Services has a catchment area of about 2 million people and carries out about 20 million pathology tests annually. All virology tests are done at St Peter’s hospital.
You will hold the new consultant contract with 10 Programmed Activities and the job plan will be reviewed after six months. The post currently involves 1 in 3 on-call cover attracting an 8% on-call supplement.
You must be a registered medical practitioner and on the Specialist register of the GMC or be eligible on the specialist register within three months of the date of the Advisory Appointment Committee. The post is ideally suited to applicants with microbiology training or microbiology/infectious diseases joint training.
