Applications are invited for Consultants in Acute Medicine & medical specialty of choice to work within the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, broadening the cadre of Acute Physicians who are central to plans to improve both pathways and clinical outcomes for medical patients in the Unscheduled Care stream.

The Clinical Board of Medicine is charged with developing innovative processes of clinical care with a focus on earliest patient entry to specialist and condition-specific pathways. The team of Acute Physicians will support these processes, working with colleagues in the Emergency Unit, ICU and the full range of medical specialties. They will also develop and manage an enlarged portfolio of Ambulatory Care options to be available at first clinical contact.

We are looking for a number of enthusiastic individuals trained in Acute Medicine and general medicine sub-specialties. This round of appointments will take the total number of Acute Physicians in the organisation to 15.5 posts. The range of current sub-specialty interests of ACP colleagues means that we are particularly interested in receiving applications from those with specialist expertise in either Respiratory Medicine or Infectious Diseases although posts are available to any sub-specialty interest. A specific job description for Acute Medicine with Respiratory Medicine interest is available upon request.

As well as Acute Physician sessional commitments, successful candidates will be encouraged to continue their speciality development by integration with colleagues and services in the appropriate directorates. The 10-session Job Plans will be flexible but include a typical weekly 3 Acute Physician floor sessions and 4 speciality sessions (of which 1 might be in support of Ambulatory Care).

The new Acute Physician appointees will receive appropriate clinical managerial support and guidance within a culture of team working.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT/CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
