Consultant Cellular Pathologist
Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Services (CWPS) invites applications for two replacement consultant cellular pathologists.
We are seeking pathologists with sub-specialist interests in any of the following areas: gynaecological pathology, breast pathology, dermatopathology, or gastro-intestinal pathology. We would also welcome interest from applicants wishing to specialise in morbid anatomy, otherwise participation in the autopsy service is welcomed but not essential. Participation in both research and teaching (at undergraduate and post graduate level) will be encouraged and supported by protected sessions. University of Warwick’s Clinical Sciences Research Institute located on the UHCW site provides state of the art cellular laboratory research facilities.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the largest pathology network in the Midlands, which provides pathology services for the University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW), George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust, Burton Foundation Trust and South Warwick Hospital Foundation Trust. The department has full UKAS accreditation, is fully sub-specialised and benefits from extensive BMS led cut-up. CWPS is a global leader in digital pathology having adopted this technology and lead its implementation into diagnostic practice. This innovative development will offer unrivalled flexibility of workflow benefiting both pathologists and clinical services. The UHCW Centre of Excellence for Digital Pathology has been established in partnership with the University of Warwick Computer Science Department and is aimed at developing and evaluating digital pathology algorithms of diagnostic and prognostic use.
UHCW is the teaching hospital for the University of Warwick Medical School and the department is engaged in teaching pathology to medical students. The appointees will be encouraged to take advantage of protected sessions to support teaching.
UHCW is a modern hospital completely rebuilt in 2006 under a Private Finance Initiative. The building provides modern facilities with a well-equipped and spacious pathology laboratory. In addition to purpose designed surgical, cytology and immunocytochemical labs, the department has a multi-disciplinary molecular diagnostic facility, providing a single multiplexed PCR based analysis of the commonly mutated solid tumour genes. CWPS is one of the largest training centres for the West Midlands Cellular Pathology Training Scheme and is also part of the West Midlands ST1 Training School.
Coventry is a thriving city with a fascinating history extending back to medieval times. Local schools are excellent and include some of the UK’s top ranking grammar and comprehensive schools.
The post offers a wonderful opportunity for an exciting and rewarding career in surgical pathology, as well as offering unrivalled opportunities for research and teaching.
