Applicants are invited to apply for the post of Consultant in Anaesthetics based at Macclesfield District General Hospital in the Planned Care Directorate. The post has arisen due to the partial retirement of two long standing Associate Specialist doctors.

Macclesfield is a very pleasant Cheshire town located on the edge of the Peak District. It is within easy travelling distance of many major cities and is only two hours from London by train. Manchester International Airport is less than half an hour away by car. The town is within easy reach of the Peak National Park, offering opportunities for a wide variety of lifestyle and interests. The district is prosperous with an income above the national average with particularly good housing and schools.

The vacancy is for 10 Programmed Activities, 8.0 Direct Clinical Care and 2.0 Supporting Professional Activities. The post will involve doing 7 daytime theatre sessions which will be flexible depending upon the service requirements. The successful applicants will be expected to participate in the ‘out of hours’ consultant on call rota.

The successful candidate will be expected to work flexibly and provide high quality care with particular emphasis on:-

  • Participation in the anaesthetic on-call rota and assisting in providing cover for colleagues on leave.
  • Working flexibly and co-operatively to ensure the smooth running of the department.
  • Ensuring that Macclesfield Hospital remains the priority when undertaking external, or other non-clinical, appointments or duties.
  • Being a good colleague to the other members of the department.
  • Being reliable, fair and trustworthy.
  • Working together with colleagues to ensure effective management of patients, internal referrals and theatre sessions.
  • Participation in the education and training of medical students, doctors and professionals allied to medicine.
  • Demonstrating a firm commitment to the principles of clinical governance.
  • Developing and maintaining robust systems to ensure effective clinical audit.
  • Ensuring NHS Plan standards for inpatient/day case Waiting Times are achieved.
  • Ensuring that optimal use is made of resources allocated to the department and the post.
