WELLCOME TRUST PHD PROGRAMME FOR PRIMARY CARE CLINICIANS

CLINICAL PHD RESEARCH FELLOW

Salary range:  Appropriate clinical salary scale to be decided by host institution but will depend on current role and experience
3 years’ full-time fixed term or pro-rata part-time fixed term
Flexible working will be considered

Applications from NHS employees for the post on a secondment basis, will be considered.

The Wellcome PhD Programme for Primary Care Clinicians, led by the Universities of Keele and Oxford, with the Universities of Cambridge and Southampton, will support up to four Clinical PhD Research Fellowships annually for the next five years.

This programme provides world-class doctoral research training for exceptional clinicians with demonstrated commitment to primary care research. The post provides protected time to develop high quality academic skills and complete a PhD, whilst continuing limited clinical activities in a host academic practice for up to one day a week. 

You will work within one of the four host Institutions on one of the PhD Research Fellowships available (please see website for details of specific available projects (www.keele.ac.uk/wellcometrust/). You must be a fully-qualified General Practitioner or on a vocational training scheme, have a Degree in Medicine, as well as having the right to work in the UK and be eligible for home/EU PhD fees, and be fluent in English.  A Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline is desirable.

Excellent communication, organisation, and presentation skills are essential requirements, as are good time management skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.  Evidence of achievement in the design, execution, writing and presenting of research is essential.
Financial support is for three years full-time or pro-rota for part-time working and includes a clinical equivalent salary, limited research expenses, general training funds and reasonable travel costs. A PhD must be completed within this time.
