The Nuffield Department of Population Health (NDPH) contains world-renowned population health research groups and provides an excellent environment for multi-disciplinary research and teaching. Based within NDPH, NPEU is a vibrant academic community of 90 staff undertaking research about pregnancy, childbirth and new-born babies. The Clinical Trials Unit (NPEU CTU) is a fully registered UKCRC Clinical Trials Unit and typically runs large multi-centre randomised controlled trials.
This is an exciting newly established senior post developed for a practicing clinician in neonatology with a track record in neonatal clinical trials and other epidemiological research. It is a unique opportunity to proactively drive the thriving research agenda nationally and internationally. The post holder will be responsible for participating in the leadership of the NPEU CTU, strengthening and expanding collaborations, shaping the research portfolio, developing methodological ideas, applying for research funding and providing scientific advice to all aspects of the work of the NPEU and beyond.
The clinical aspect of the role, based primarily at the JR Hospital, will involve attending duties covering neonatal intensive /high dependency/ low dependency care, outpatients and clinical support to the Regional Newborn Transport Service) and Neonatal Network.
To be considered you will hold MRCPCH or equivalent, a higher degree and GMC Specialist Registration with CCT in Paediatrics (Neonatal Medicine) or equivalent with a licence to practice. You will also have experience making decisions at a consultant level, leading a clinical team, and a demonstrable track record in neonatal research with evidence of well cited original publications in high-impact journals.
The post is 50% FTE National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit, University of Oxford and 50%FTE Clinical contract with Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and fixed term for 5 years.
