Specialty Doctor in Anaesthesia
A Specialty Doctor post is available within the Directorate of Anaesthesia at University Hospital Ayr.We are looking for an anaesthetist to work in our forward thinking department which is very supportive and offers opportunities for continued clinical development.
University Hospital Ayr has a complement of 15 Consultant Anaesthetists supported by Associate Specialists Specialty Doctors and 4 - 6 Specialty Trainees. Department interests include ultrasound regional anaesthesia bariatric vascular and clinical simulation. We have a dedicated clinical simulation suite on site.
ALS ATLS and APLS courses are taught throughout the year. We also have an extensive commitment to undergraduate medical student teaching with student attachments both in Anaesthesia and ICU.
The current RCOA SAS Educational Advisor is based within the Department. The successful candidate will be supported and encouraged to develop within the role. We have the advantage of a green field site with open views to the countryside free parking and a great hospital catering.
The location is perfect for visiting the Scottish Highlands and Islands and Lowlands of Galloway. Water based sports golf and mountain biking are popular pastimes. We are only 40 mins by road to Glasgow and 15 mins to Prestwick Airport. NHS Ayrshire and Arran serves a population of 375000 with specialities located at University Hospital Ayr and University Hospital Crosshouse (Kilmarnock). University Hospital Ayr is a 350 bedded relatively new general hospital opened in 1991 which has a range of laboratory and investigative facilities.
The hospital provides acute and elective care in orthopaedics general and an area wide service for vascular surgery ophthalmology and urology. The Terms and Conditions of service are those determined by the New Specialty Doctor Grade (Scotland) 2008 and are offered on a 10 Programmed Activity basis however there is a possibility that up to 2 Additional Programmed Activities may be available as required to meet the needs of the service. Appropriately experienced applicants must have Full GMC Registration with a current Licence to Practice and have completed at least 4 years full-time postgraduate training of which at least 2 years will have been within Anaesthesia.
