Consultant in Care of the Elderly and Frailty
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the dynamic Care of the Elderly team and to participate in service transformation for the future.
We are keen to develop in reach services for Front Door Frailty and Comprehensive Geriatric assessment and discharge planning.
We are part of NHS Elect Acute Frailty Network cohort 5 and have the wider support of the Accountable Care Network to develop services further.
The successful candidate will have sessions in General and Geriatric Medicine and will contribute to the further development of acute medical services for Frailty and Dementia. The development of a special interest to complement and develop the department will be welcomed. The successful candidate will have junior doctor support to facilitate the assessment and ongoing care of inpatients which will be on the ward 19-20 Acute Elderly Care landing where inpatient acute assessment and post acute care and rehabilitation facilities are being developed.
The successful candidate will have both a general medical and specialty clinic. Currently the specialty clinic is “Falls” but can be developed further to suit the specialist interest of the appointee and any special interest can be accommodated.
The successful candidate will play an integral part in the assessment and management of patients with both Frailty and Dementia and will lead further development of this service.
Additionally, as the Department has strong academic links the successful candidate will be supported to develop their research skills and develop a research interest. The successful candidate can apply for honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer status at the University of Sheffield.
There is a strong commitment to education and training both in the Trust as a whole, and the post holder will be expected to contribute to this and to the educational supervision of two junior doctors with CME built in to the timetable of this post. Office accommodation and secretarial support will also be provided.
This post does include an on call commitment, approximately 1 in 15 with lieu time given for weekend working. The role of 12 hour working, seven days a week on AMU is currently being reviewed by the Trust and this post anticipates the need for this in the future.
