Consultant Cellular Pathologist (10 PAs)

We are looking to appoint a second Consultant in Cellular Pathology
to work at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital on the beautiful island of
Guernsey in the Channel Islands.
This is a new post which has been created due to increase in the
histopathology workloads and cancer multidisciplinary team (MDT)
meeting workloads. The suitable candidate will have wide experience
in general pathology. Candidates with special interest in skin, prostate
and gynaecology to support the incumbent post holder who has a special
interest in breast and gastrointestinal pathology will be considered.
Additional PA’s up to 12 may be available, CEA payment may be
considered for experienced or outstanding candidates.
The successful candidate will be professionally responsible to the
Medical Director and will report to the Clinical Head of Pathology
Services to provide an eff ective and effi cient histopathology service to
the Medical Specialists, General Practitioners and Dentists authorised
by Health & Social Care to use the Pathology Services at the Princess
The department processes approximately 6,000 requests a year. Large
specimens are from the following surgical procedures: laparoscopic
radical prostatectomy, breast surgery, upper and lower GI surgery,
hysterectomy, orchidectomy, nephrectomy, thyroidectomy, laryngectomy
and cervical lymph node dissection for head and neck cancers. The
department holds eight MDT meetings, five every week and three
every two weeks. The meetings are facilitated by an MDT co-ordinator.
There are approximately 60 autopsies per year, 90% of which are
requested by the Law Offi cers. Non-Gynae and cervical cytology are
reported at Southmead Hospital in Bristol. Candidates for the post must
hold full and specialist registration with a licence to practise with the
GMC. Those trained in the UK should hold a CCT, or be within 6 months
of award of CCT by the date of interview. Non UK applicants will be
required to demonstrate equivalent training. It is also expected that the
appointee will hold the FRCPath or show evidence of equivalent training
