The role

The ENT Department at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust are looking to appoint a Consultant to replace one of our existing 7 Consultants providing ENT / Head & Neck Services to the County of Shropshire and a substantial part of the adjacent Welsh County of Powys with a combined catchment population of approximately 500,000 and rising.  You will join the current ENT Team at the Princess Royal Hospital and participate in the further development of this service in Shropshire. 

Candidates for this role must have GMC registration and recent experience within the NHS.

The Department

The Inpatient Unit is situated at the Princess Royal Hospital and has adjacent dedicated Wards for adults and paediatrics.

Outpatients Services

Full Outpatient services are provided at the Princess Royal Hospital and Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.  The new Consultant will undertake Outpatient Clinics at both Centres and also Outreach Clinics by arrangement. 

The new Consultant will be required to provide a general ENT service as well as maintain and further develop the otology and paediatric services, depending on skills and experience.

Operating Theatres

All inpatient work is undertaken at The Princess Royal Hospital where theatres are equipped with new microscopes, a KTP laser, a Co2 laser and equipment for FESS surgery.

Day Case Surgery

Day case surgery is carried out at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital in dedicated Day Units.  There are lists for adults and children, which are available to all the Consultants.

Audiology Department

There are fully equipped Audiology Departments at both RSH and PRH.

Other Services

Intensive Care, Radiotherapy and Pathology are situated at the Princess Royal Hospital.  There is CT and MRI available at both Hospitals.  A Chemotherapy Day Unit in conjunction with Macmillan Foundation has recently been constructed and is now open at RSH.  A second Linear Accelerator has recently been opened at RSH.
