Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry
Fife is an area of considerable scenic, historical and cultural interest and a
great place to live and work. This is an exciting time to work in the region within the Health & Social Care Partnership. Fife has the unique advantage of the Partnership and Health Board having the same boundary, so integration offers real opportunities to look at the whole picture of care from a patient’s perspective. The Health & Social Care Partnership supports and encourages Consultant career development. In addition, you will be supported in providing strong clinical leadership.
This post offers ample scope for teaching with links with the Universities of
Dundee, Edinburgh and St Andrews. Flexible working models are in operation, complementing the good work life balance that this mixed rural urban area offers, with ready access to the cities of Dundee and Edinburgh, good local schools and economical housing.
Within Fife, there is a consultant body of approximately 30 consultants meeting regularly at the Division of Psychiatry, with Specialists in Old Age Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry, Learning Disabilities, CAMHS, Substance misuse and Eating Disorders. The On Call commitment for out of hours is shared between all Consultants, with the exception of CAMHS Consultants and is currently 1 in 18.
There is support from Junior Medical Staff from the South East Scotland rotational training scheme or General Practitioner Specialist Training Scheme and will be expected to take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. All Junior Medical posts in Fife are fully accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
This post is a split general adult sector based (8PA) and academic post (2PA).
Inpatients beds are at Whytemans Brae Hospital, Kirkcaldy. There are two
protected academic sessions with St Andrews University. St Andrews University is the oldest university in Scotland and the third oldest university in the English speaking world.
