North Bristol NHS Trust is one of the largest acute hospital trusts within the country with approximately 1050 beds and employing more than 9,500 staff and a revenue budget in excess of £540 million The Trust provides hospital and community healthcare to residents based within Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset of around 900,000 people. In May 2014 the Trust relocated the majority of its acute services to the Brunel Building, one of the most advanced hospitals in Europe offering state-of-the-art care in a beautiful and purpose built environment, designed with the patients privacy and dignity in mind.
The Trust is seeking to appoint a full time Consultant Plastic Surgeon, with a major interest in breast reconstruction. This is a replacement post following resignation. We are looking for a motivated individual with sufficient experience to deliver excellent results from day one that thrives in a fast paced environment to join a highly committed team.
The service has gained approval for an additional 6 month fixed term post to reduce overall waiting times for this popular service, with a further business case in 6 months to review the feasibility of making a third substantive appointment to the Plastic’s Breast Reconstruction team.
In keeping with the Major Trauma Centre accreditation of NBT at
Southmead, a range of allied surgical and medical specialities work with the Plastic team. This post will be one of nineteen consultant posts in the Department of Plastics and Burns, dealing with a wide range of special interests including Breast reconstruction, Burns, Hand surgery, Lower limb reconstructions, Sarcoma and skin malignancies. There is a dedicated Hand and Upper limb physiotherapy centre under the Plastic remit of services.
The post-holder will be working closely with another Plastics’ Breast Consultant, delivering Breast Reconstruction outpatient clinics and operating sessions. The Plastics’ Breast Reconstructive department is a regional specialist Breast Cancer and Reconstructive service covering Cheltenham, Gloucester, Bath and Bristol.
The post-holder will participate in 1:13 on call rota covering Adult Plastic Trauma at Southmead Hospital and Paediatric trauma based as Bristol Royal Hospital for Children based with University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust individuals wishing to apply must be registered Medical Practitioners (with a licence to practice) and on the Specialist Register of the GMC or be eligible to be on the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee. Applicants must also have Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists.
The successful candidate will be employed under Terms & Conditions of Service for Consultants (England) 2003. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential.
