Consultant Physician Geriatrician

Base: Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the substantive position of Consultant Geriatrician. The successful applicant will work in a team of 8 consultant physicians with 4 consultants based at Nevill Hall Hospital. The team provides a comprehensive geriatrician service to a catchment population of over 550,000. 

The Directorate of Older Adult Medicine sits within the Unscheduled Care Division of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and is committed to delivering a modern, sustainable and patient-centered service. Geriatrician services at Nevill Hall Hospital are undertaken in the outpatients department. A dedicated tilt testing session is held in the Day Hospital. A clinical nurse specialist supports the Stroke service at the Nevill Hall Hospital site. The inpatients under the care of the Geriatrician services are based on ward 4/3, a 32 bedded ward (COTE/gen med) shared between two geriatricians. Participation in the medical on-call rota will be on a 1 in 13 basis. 

Abergavenny is located in South-East Wales, within an easy 40 minutes commute from Cardiff, Bristol and Bath. It has good train and road access (M4/ M50), and is located immediately adjacent to the Brecon Beacons National Park (awarded the prestigious International Dark Sky Reserve status) as well as offering extensive activities and amenities.

Free parking is available across all Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Sites.

This position involves Regulated Activity with adults as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) and the following checks will be undertaken following any conditional offer: 

  • Enhanced check with barred list information, including an adults barred list check 

Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a Licence to Practice. 

Candidates for Consultant posts must also be on the GMC Specialist Register (including via CESR/European Community Rights) or will have a CCT/CESR(CP) date within 6 months of interview.

This post is not included on the current UK Shortage Occupation List and is subject to the rules outlined in the attachment ‘Resident Labour Market Test Guidance’.
