Applications are invited for a Specialty Doctor in Oncology to join our Oncology team providing cancer care to Somerset.

This post is ideal for doctors looking for time away from training or a non-training career. Previous experience in oncology is desirable but not essential. Oncology training and support for long term career development to associate specialist will be provided. For the post of specialty doctor, candidates will have completed at least three years full time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) at least two of which should be in a specialty training programme or equivalent experience and competencies. 

This is a full time post but we would welcome applications from those considering less than full time work.

About Us

The successful candidates will join the current team of ten Clinical Oncologists, two Medical Oncologists, one Associate Specialist andone specialty doctor in Oncology as well as six Haematologists.

Facilities for the treatment of cancer in Taunton have undergone a major expansion, culminating in the opening of the Beacon Centre at Musgrove Park Hospital in May 2009. This brought oncology facilities, including radiotherapy and chemotherapy, to the population of Somerset (c535, 000 catchment).

The Beacon Centre has received a number of accolades since opening in 2009 for the high quality care delivered CHKS ISO 9001accreditation, Macmillan Quality Environment Mark (MQEM) rated5 (out of 5) on all principles, Investors in People Gold Award and Customer Service Excellence Award, July 2016. A+++ award, the only organisation to ever receive A+++. In the 2016/2017 National Cancer Patient Experience Survey, the Beacon Centre was ranked fourth overall which is an excellent reflection of the patient centred care delivered.
