An opportunity arises for an enthusiastic Old Age Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Caerphilly Borough Older Adult Mental Health team, covering the South of the borough with a catchment area of approximately 11,500 Older Adults. The post holder will work alongside two other Consultant Old Age Psychiatrists (one full-time and one part-time) who cover the remainder of the Caerphilly borough.

The post holder will be based at the newly built Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr Hospital where the community teams and dementia inpatient ward are co-located. The post holder will have community, inpatient responsibilities and on call duties (approximately 1 in 26)

Caerphilly borough has a very well developed community older adult mental health team, a well established dementia inpatient ward and a forward thinking and innovative Memory assessment service. There is psychology and OT support embedded across the service. There is a separate dedicated Older Adult Psychiatric Liaison (RAID) team to deal with patients admitted to general hospital. There will be opportunities for teaching, clinical research and quality improvements initiatives. The successful applicant will join the active OAMH directorate management group and 10 other Old Age Psychiatry Consultants serving the Gwent population.

Applicants must be able to fulfil the travel requirements of the post. Free parking is available across all Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Sites. 

This position involves Regulated Activity with adults as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) and the following checks will be undertaken following any conditional offer:

- an adults barred list check

Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a Licence to Practice. They must possess the MRCPsych or equivalent qualification and must also be on the GMC Specialist Register for Old Age Psychiatry (including via CESR/European Community Rights) or will have a CCT/CESR(CP) date within 6 months of interview.
