JHH is the largest hospital in the district, with approximately 650 beds and is a tertiary referral, major trauma and teaching hospital, servicing a population of more than 900,000 people. We have strong academic connections with Hunter Medical Research Institute and the University of Newcastle.

The department has a well established multidisciplinary workforce with subspecialty areas such as a young people clinic, adult type1 diabetes clinic, insulin pump/CGMS clinics, high risk pregnancy and foot clinic. 

Endocrinology has the full complement of thyroid, parathyroid, pituitary and adrenal surgery, regional thyroid cancer network, transgender clinics, and metabolic bone clinics and has close connections with paediatric endocrinology. 

Applicants must hold a medical degree registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award.
