Homerton University Hospital is an acute modern hospital housed in an award-winning development serving the population of Hackney. It has good transport links via the overground to Stratford (10 mins links to Jubilee and Central lines), Highbury and Islington (8 mins links to Victoria line) and Stratford International (high speed links to Kent). The area surrounding the hospital has undergone immense change over the last few years with substantial public and private investment which has succeeded in making it an incredibly popular place to reside due to its burgeoning café society, beautiful local parks and numerous outstanding and good local schools. Hackney is a diverse area to work in and the consultant body reflects this with both UK trained and non UK trained radiologists working in the department; 8 different languages are spoken within the consultant body.
The post is being advertised to provide support to the established team of 11 consultants due to increasing activity across all imaging modalities, 3 of the existing radiologists have a subspecialist interest in musculoskeletal radiology. Due to the developments in orthopaedics and sports medicine services at Homerton there is a need for increased skills in musculoskeletal radiology within the department.
The successful applicant would be expected to participate in the on call rota, which would become 1 in 12 with successful recruitment to this position. From February 2018 we have altered our on call service and radiologists are expected to be on site in the week until 8pm and at weekends for 8 hours on Saturday and 6 on the Sunday. Compensatory rest time post weekend on call is incorporated in to the job plan. Overnight (8 pm to 8 am) CT reporting is outsourced.
The department has 2 MR scanners, 1.5 Tesla MR scanner (GE MR450) and 3 Tesla MRI (GE750W) and Toshiba Aquilion Prime CT (December 2016). In the main department there are six ultrasound machines, 3 GE E9 and 3 newly purchased Toshiba Aplio i 800 scanners. All plain x-ray imaging acquisition is DR. The screening room is a Siemens Artis Zee. Mammography has a GE Senegraphe essential mammography unit and a Toshiba Aplio 1 800 scanner.
Applicants must have, or be within 6 months of completing CCST or have an equivalent radiology qualification with GMC registration. This post is for 11 PA, although part time applications would be considered.
