The School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition wishes to recruit an experienced clinical academic to lead the innovative and growing General Practice and Community Medical Education (GPCME) Group at the University of Aberdeen. The University of Aberdeen MBChB programme has a strong track record of delivering graduates who chose General Practice as a career and is committed to sustaining and enhancing this further.
You should normally be working in a General Practice or Community Care setting and have experience in the delivery of undergraduate medical education. Support will be given if required for the successful applicant to engage with clinical activity. The post is available for up to 0.6 FTE (it is expected that the successful applicant would work a minimum of 0.4 FTE).
The Group was created in September 2011 to bring together all staff who deliver the teaching and assessment of ‘community’ based teaching into one overall section. Included within GPCME are the academic, administrative and secretarial staffs involved in:
- General Practice teaching across all years of the MBChB and Physician Associate Curricula
- Public Health teaching
- Occupational and Environmental Medicine (OEM) teaching
- GP based MBChB intercalating students
The Head of the Group has overall responsibility for ensuring the delivery, assessment and quality management of general practice and community-based teaching including staff and budgetary issues. Specific responsibilities also include development and maintenance of working relationships with NHS Education Scotland and other Heads of GP / community teaching within Scotland and the rest of the United Kingdom.
The post holder is supported by the dedicated GP administrative team and an experienced teaching team. The post holder will be expected to lead the team in the ongoing and innovative development of GP and community based teaching in the curriculum. You will represent the University of Aberdeen MBChB curriculum with respect to GP matters nationally. Other work will involve contributing to assessment and the delivery of teaching, evaluation and supporting pedagogic research. Occasional travelling to Inverness and other Scottish University departments of General Practice and visiting practices around Grampian, Shetland, Dumfries & Galloway and Fife.
The salary will be paid in the range of £65,014-£84,276 per annum (pro-rata) on the salary scale for Staff honorary Consultant Contracts.
