Consultant Gastroenterologist (10PA Job Plan)

Division of Acute Medicine and Emergency Services

This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and expanding Gastroenterology Team at Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals as a Consultant Gastroenterologist. We are seeking to recruit a new Consultant to complement and enhance our cohesive and experienced Gastroenterology team which will comprise 7 Consultants and 5 Clinical Nurse Specialists.

The Gastroenterology Department provides all aspects of Gastroenterology and enjoys excellent surgical, radiological and MDT support. Current sub-specialty interests include IBD, nutrition, HPB disease, and neuro-gastroenterology, as well as ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound, and capsule endoscopy.

This post is primarily based at St Peters Hospital in Chertsey where there is a dedicated inpatient ward. There are full endoscopy services within a JAG-accredited facility using state of the art video endoscopy equipment and excellent radiology facilities. The endoscopy unit has undergone expansion completed in July 2017, providing an additional room and further enhancements.

The successful candidate will be supported to take up a lead position in a sub-specialty area depending on their skills and experience. Research interests will be encouraged and there are increasingly close links with the University of Surrey and Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford. There will be an on-call commitment for acute GI bleeds and rotating weekend ward cover/ specialty in-reach in Gastroenterology (1 in 6/7), but the team is not on call for General Medicine.

Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals became a Foundation Trust in December 2010 and was formed by the merger of St Peter’s Hospital and Ashford Hospital in 1998. It is the largest provider of acute hospital services in Surrey, serving a population of over 400,000 across Chertsey, Guildford, Woking, Walton-on-Thames, Weybridge, Staines, Bedfont, Feltham and Spelthorne. There are around 400 beds in a range of specialties. There is a full range of imaging services including CT and MRI scanning, and Laboratory Services. Both Hospitals have a modern Postgraduate Centre with library services.

The Trust's location in NW Surrey offers a variety of attractive areas to live, with a wide choice of excellent schools. It has superb transport links, for road, rail and air, and is in close proximity to London.

Applicants must hold a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (or CCT) by the time of taking up the post or be accredited for inclusion in the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register.

Candidates are encouraged to attend an informal visit prior to interview.

For an informal discussion, please contact: Dr Neil Ikin, Clinical Lead for Gastroenterology on 01932 726617
