We are seeking 2 Consultants in Acute Medicine to be part of an already established Consultant team as we continue to expand the role of this specialist team in leading acute medicine and ambulatory care within the Trust. These 2 posts are additional posts increasing the team to 8 Consultants in Acute Medicine.The posts are full time (10 or 11 PAs).

The posts will be based at Watford General Hospital. Watford General Hospital is the main acute hospital for West Hertfordshire, providing for all emergency admissions for a population of approximately 500,000. Medical patients are admitted via ED and from GP referrals. The Acute Medicine team are responsible for a 5-bay Medical Assessment Unit, a 60-bed assessment and short stay Acute Admissions Unit and the Ambulatory Care Service. There is good multi-disciplinary working within the specialty and close working with the Emergency Medical team and other medical specialties.Candidates who wish to work some sessions in another medical specialty will be considered – Acute Medicine will be the majority of a consultant’s clinical work.

The consultant team are supported by Specialty doctors, doctors in training (ACCS and Foundation programme), Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Physicians Assistants. There is an active training and audit programme in the department.We are an Associated University Hospital active in the education of undergraduate students.

Watford is 18 miles or 15 minutes by fast train from London and all its attractions, academic and otherwise. Watford is a thriving town with good retail, educational and leisure facilities, and is on the edge of attractive countryside in the Chilterns.
