The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre invites applications for the post of Consultant in Clinical Oncology. This is a replacement post and is a 10 PA permanent post. The appointee will help provide medical input to the Breast practice at Warrington and Halton and Skin practice in Warrington.

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s leading cancer centres, providing high quality care to the population of Merseyside and Cheshire and beyond.

Consistently rated one of the best-performing hospitals in the country, we deliver compassionate and effective, specialist care and in February 2017 were rated as ‘Outstanding’ by The Care Quality Commission.

We provide a comprehensive range of inpatient care, advanced radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other systemic anti-cancer therapies including gene therapies and immunotherapies for the treatment of solid tumours and blood cancers. We are also the only facility in the UK providing low-energy proton beam therapy to treat rare eye cancers.

We are currently embarking on an £162 million investment in facilities including a new cancer hospital in the heart of Liverpool due to open in 2020. Based on the same thriving research and healthcare campus as the University of Liverpool and Royal Liverpool University Hospital, the new hospital will ensure every patient receives truly outstanding care and can access the most advanced treatments and clinical trials for generations to come.

We combine high quality clinical services, research and academic excellence to develop innovative drugs and therapies, whilst providing the very highest quality, specialist care for patients.

Although the Liverpool hospital will become our main base, we will continue to provide Imaging services at our current site in Wirral and at our satellite radiotherapy unit on the Aintree Hospital site in Liverpool. We are a tertiary cancer centre and provide non-surgical cancer care for solid tumours and haematological malignancies.

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre has a full range of modern radiotherapy facilities and equipment and a funded replacement programme. This includes 9 modern linear accelerators across 2 sites, a private linac at CCC Wirral plus superficial and orthovoltage X-Ray machines, 2 CT simulators (from April one at CCC Wirral and one at CCC Aintree) and Eclipse planning computer system. The centre offers HDR Brachytherapy (including for skin tumours). All linear accelerators have cone beam CT. IMRT, SABR, SRS and gating are all being used extensively with all breast patients being treated in breath hold. 3 of the Linacs are situated in a satellite radiotherapy facility on the University Hospital Aintree/Walton Centre for Neurology and Nurosurgery site. This provides out-patient radiotherapy facilities for ambulatory patients in North Merseyside and includes SRS services.
